Lucy, Olly - The mill, boat-gate and a 'country chic' slice of adventure

Lucy and Olly’s day was near on perfect. As Mike and I said, if we weren't working, we'd want to be guests. The details with this one were so finely tuned under the banner 'country chic' (although nobody seemed to know what country chic actually was) that it was hard to not fear missing something important to shoot... there was just so much! A feast for the eyes, for the hearts and for the revellers! There were hay bales, outdoor games, the cheapest bar known to man, a photo-booth, a lake, a mill, boats - two of them! An amazing BBQ, personalised bunting, quirky signs everywhere (of course, my fave being the pirate one!), stunning views, oh the list goes on and on. Most importantly though, there was some damn fine people! What a fabulous and interesting bunch and of course a very beautiful and happy bride and one gorgeous (possibly heat-stroked) groom ;-). Yes, it was hotter than the sun and I was about to complain that someone should really turn down the heating because ‘it is getting silly now’, but when your wedding is outside and not able to withstand the ‘normal’ British summer we're all so used to, I think you call it lucky and utterly blessed!

Lucy and Olly are a golden couple. Literally. They’re blonde for starters, and gorgeous for mains and remind me of little rays of sunshine. It's clear they're the outdoorsy/beachy types and aren't afraid of a little adrenalin. After their lovely service at St. Michaels in the chocolate box village of Amberley, they were towed in a boat (!!!) up to their favourite spot and we charged up the hill to get shots of the view. Lucy can move fast for one in a wedding dress and heels! I think Lizzie (she was holding Lucy’s dress) found it akin to an assault course. It was funny. Later in the day, Olly thought nothing of getting up on the mill and jumping straight off again, and Lucy – I remind you... in an amazing dress – got in a boat… on the water… with oars… and water… and did I mention water? Lots of! A proper boat. Oh Lordy there were wobbles. Everyone was nervous. Those of us on dry land, sucked in a little air. Not many brides would have done it – gosh, most won’t even go outside at the sniff of rain so Lucy I humbly salute to you - I’m totally in awe of your sense of adventure and even better than that, you actually, physically, paid homage to your own wedding theme - The Owl and the Pussy Cat - bravo!

It was very clear throughout the day that these two are incredibly lovable and deeply cherished by all those around them. Lucy had eight bridesmaids! Eight of ‘em. Mazing! And a lovely flower girl. But eight best female friends? I'd say that's a headache, but Lucy has fine taste! They were all such awesome ladies who couldn’t have been lovelier... plying me with water and always checking I was ok ;-) – thank you ladies! Also, the groomsmen provided us with much speech-merriment, laughter and possibly a good dose of shock for Olly’s parents, but no self-respecting best men would ever let a groom get off too lightly! Parents seem to always learn a lot about their sons at weddings!

So, yes, I loved this lot. I loved their styling, their sense of fun and adventure, their friends and family and above all I loved that we got to be part of their day. And I especially loved the guy in shorts, braces and a bow tie brandishing the Jagermeister! Who doesn't love that guy at a wedding?!

So here's to you Lucy and Olly. May you sail forth together (preferably with a working oar) doing crazy fun things, together, happy and in love, always... Owl and Pussy Cat stylie.

I wish you all the very best for the future, just please keep yourselves safe and don't go jumping off too many high things ;-)

My love and best wishes to you both,
Loukie x
